Work packages, expected results
This section presents the expected results of the four work packages of the project AI ArchaeoTopiawhere the conceptual frameworks and management, knowledge transformation, verification and integration, as well as knowledge and public outreach are described.
Conceptual frameworks and management
- Creation of a clear methodological framework and a Data Management Plan (DMP) aligned with the FAIR principles.
- Ensuring financial and scientific transparency through regular management reports.
- Systematic analysis of scientific and regulatory documents related to the research.
- Publication in a refereed and indexed journal at an intermediate stage; inclusion as part of the collective monograph at the final stage.
Transformation of knowledge about space
- A database of georeferenced archival topographic maps covering the entire territory of Bulgaria.
- A national vector layer of archaeological sites (mounds) extracted using AI.
- A pilot digital terrain model (DTM) based on AI-digitized isolines.
- Publicly accessible documentation, AI models, and open-source software for reuse.
- Publication in a refereed and indexed journal at an intermediate stage; two open-source scripts under specified licenses at the final stage; inclusion as part of the collective monograph at the final stage.
Verification and integration
- Field verification of AI results using GNSS and drone technologies in a test region.
- Интеграция на новите данни в националната система „Археологическа карта на България“ (ГИС АКБ).
- Statistical assessment of the accuracy and reliability of computer vision methods.
- Publication in a refereed and indexed journal at the final stage; inclusion as part of the collective monograph at the final stage.
Knowledge, outreach, and long-term sustainability
- A functioning bilingual website and publication of open data in international repositories.
- Scientific publications and participation in international and national conferences.
- Organization of a training/workshop to build capacity among the team and students.
